Parents, we are off to a great start in Room 217! Although we have done lots of practicing our routines and trying to simply "get back into the swing of things," we are moving towards a very successful school year! DIBELS for our class was completed on Tuesday with excellent results. Using the information provided by DIBELS, both the reading specialist and I are preparing our reading groups for the year ahead.
Our reading specialist this year will be Mrs. Kim Wheat. Mrs. Wheat has taught a K-1 loop in the past at TPS, but will be tackling reading intervention for the 2010-2011 school year! I can't wait to see the gains in reading our students will make by working with her!
We will be beginning our StoryTown reading program this coming week. Each week will consist of spelling words (with a test on Friday), vocabulary words (please review as often as possible at home and look for kid-friendly definitions on this blog), high-frequency words to know, consonants & vowels to review/learn, and strategies for improving our reading comprehension.
In math, we are picking up slow and gaining momentum. At this point, we are working towards counting to 100, as well as: counting by 10, counting by 5, and counting by 2.
Please remind your child over the course of the next fews days and weeks that are rules are there for a reason and if we follow them, everything will go much smoother! Have a great week!
